back from away away!

i am back from japan! what a fun week i had visiting steve! he even let me drag him around a craft store...5 FLOORS OF CRAFTING HEAVEN. sure, it was all in japanese, but isn't the language of crafting universalbla bla bla...

i will have a few pics of the store up in a few days. along with the usual scrapbooking hoopla and a nice pen section, there were tools for glass work, including various small kilns, leather and fur materials, woodworking junk, and a nice fabric area. fabric was much like g street fabrics here, with high end materials and forms.

a week after returning from japan i went to albany, ny for a conference for work. no crafting there, though i did bring some knitting. i didn't get a chance to work on my project, as i have made a new friend. more on him later.

char's hat

here's the hat i'm making for char. i swear one of these days i'll actually give her one of the items i've made for her.

i have made two other just like this...one for myself in a dark dusty blue, and another as part of a set. it went a participant in my office's charity auction last month. hat and scarf in black. i'll be making one more for another auction winner...as soon as i get the yarn!

hats for charity

ok, so i used to work for the DC CAC, right? in november i went to my local knit shop (knit happens in old town alexandria) and presented them with the idea of a charity hat drive with the "proceeds" going to the CAC...well, after an announcement at the store and on their blog, over 40 hats of all shapes and sizes and colors have been created! they will be delievered to the CAC this week.

i just joined a brand new knitting group here in arlington, and i will share this idea with them this week when we meet on thursday evening.

here's my idea...knit or crochet hats and hats and hats and donate them to your local shelter or community center! this should not be just a holiday project! in the middle of july when you feel the need to pick up those needles but can't stand the idea of a sweater in the summer, whip up a cutie pom-pom hat! make a collection over the year, then by the winter you'll help keep more little ears warm.

practice...

andrea came over today to help me prep for the game show that might not happen. she came complete with supplies and directions, even story lines! after that we made another batch of fizzy bath busters. these smell like pear and are light green and heart shaped. all wrapped up in tissue paper...green=pear, purple=rose, white=bergamont, yellow=honey almond. let me know if you want some.
